What is “Conscious Dance”?

So what exactly constitutes “Conscious Dance”? There are many nuances and forms and any definition is likely to fail in capturing every element of every form. That said, all of the forms/classes listed on this site have the following in common:

a significant proportion of “free form” dance elements (i.e., you move your body in your own unique and awesome way)
life affirming and inclusive atmosphere and intention
absence of alcohol and drugs
most likely barefoot, though not necessarily

Current conscious dance opportunities around the state (that we know about!) include: 5Rhythms, Ecstatic Dance, JourneyDance, Contact Improv, Nia, Shake Your Soul, SpiritDance & Yoga-Dance. Click on the Dance Forms/Classes page for descriptions and a list of teachers/facilitators.
